Turtle Beach

Located in Pulau Perhentian Besar Island or Big Perhentian Island, Turtle Beach, as the name indicates, is famous for its sea turtle preservation and wildlife reserves.

Highlights – During the night hours (from 9PM to 5AM), green turtles are seen coming and laying their eggs on the shores. You can volunteer with various groups to help in incubation of these eggs. This is the widely preferred island amongst all the islands found in Perhentian Island. Snorkelling, scuba diving and sea turtle watching are some of the great experiences that you can get from here. Perfect spot for families and honymooners.

Location – Perhentian Island.

Timings – March to October.

Price – Water taxis are available to this island at RM50 to RM70.

Penang National Park

Penang National Park was previously popular as the Pantai cheh Forest Reserve. This beautiful site is a known to house 143 fauna species and 417 flora species.

Highlights:
 Located at the north western tip of the Penang island, the Penang National Park acquired the status of a National Park in the April of 2003. It is the first protected area that is legally gazetted under the Malaysia's National Park Act of 1980. You can carry out a range of activities at the Penang National Park. These include the jungle trekking, boat trips, canopy walkaway, camping and visiting the Monkey beach

Location: Penang National Park is located at Pejabat Taman Negara P. Pinang, Jalan Hassan Abbas, Balik Pulau, Pulau Pinang, 11050 Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

Timings: You can visit the park from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM on any day of the week.

Penang War Museum

Penang War Museum was basically a fort which was built by the British in the 1930s. At present, this fort has been transformed into a museum which was opened for the public in 2002. This structure has been tagged as Southeast Asia’s largest war museum. Penang War Museum is also known as Muzium Perang Pulau Pinang. The beauty of this place is the presence of historical artifacts like cannons and underground military tunnels.

Location:
The Penang War Museum is situated in Bukit Batu Maung.
 
Highlights: The Penang War Museum has ammunition bunkers which are located nine meters below the surface. There are some tunnels which lead to the sea. The tourists can also check out gun emplacements, cookhouses and other interesting structures.

Best Time: The museum is open for the public on all days from 09:00 – 19:00.

Price: The entrance fee is RM15 for Malaysians and RM30 (USD9) for foreigners.

Little India in Penang

Little India in Penang is basically an ethnic Indian enclave. There is an old Hindu temple called the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. One can easily sense a resemblance after entering the market streets. The tourists might feel that they have entered any market in Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai. The cuisine in Little India is quite famous. This region is also known for its cultural and commercial activities.

Location: Little India is situated at the centre of Penang Heritage zone. It covers an area around three streets namely, Lebuh Queen, Lebuh Chulia and Jalan Pasar.


Highlights: During the festival times like Christmas, Deepavali and Thaipusam, this area gets more vibrant and lively. The tourists can hop on a trishaw from Georgetown to reach little India. One can also rent a scooter or motorbike to cover different sections of this area.

Best Time: One can visit this area anytime.

Price: No Fee.

Penang Bird Park

The Penang Bird Park is the largest bird sanctuary in Malaysia. This park was built in 1988 which is home to over 300 species of birds. One can easily spot tiny exotic sunbirds along with kingfishers in this sanctuary. There are gigantic eight-feet tall ostriches which are also present in this area. The birds are offered an amazing natural habitat which makes Penang Bird Park a perfect enclosure.

Location: Penang Bird Park is located in Seberang Jaya.



Highlights:
Tourists can spot mandarin ducks, storks, swans, pelicans and flamingos in Penang Bird Park. The whole area has an interesting setup which looks attractive. There are Chinese-style wooden bridges along with natural ponds. Penang Bird Park also has a fine range of plants ranging from lilies, lotus and palm trees.

Best Time: This bird sanctuary is open daily between 9am- 7pm.

Price: The ticket price for adults is RM 38. For children, the ticket price is RM 20.

Clan Jetties

A part of the Penang heritage trail, Clan jetties is a conglomeration of six jetties. It was one of the last Chinese settlements on the island which is still home to various Chinese clans. The name of every jetty has been kept after a Chinese clan. The place offers plenty of Kodak moments to visitors, especially the Chew jetty.

Location: The Clan jetties are located straight down from Lebuh Chulia at Pengkalan Weld Quay.

Highlights: Tourist friendly aura and stilt houses await the keen eye of travelers. There is a temple which is worth watching. None of the people here pay any taxes to this day as they contend that they are not living on land. The place has a rich history associated with its existence.

Best time: Be wary of the fact that people still live here. So travelling here during the evenings is best for clicking best shots.

Price: No entry fee.

Penang Tropical Fruit Farm

The Penang Tropical Fruit Farm is an exemplary proof of Malaysia’s 370 species of edible fruits which include some very exotic ones too that entice even the fussiest eaters. The fruit farm preserves the green heritage of Malaysia. It contributes to the future generations as plantation of local as well as fruits from around the world is done at these farms.

Location: The Penang Tropical Fruit Farm is located at Jalan Teluk Bahang in George Town, Malaysia.

Highlights: The farm sprawls across an area of 25 acres. More than 250 types of tropical and sub-tropical fruits are planted here. The quality of plantation and the dedication of the workers here contribute to the fruitful results, literally. You are most welcome to relish the taste of numerous tropical fruits.

Best time: The farm opens daily between 9 to 6 PM. A breezy day will be best to travel.

Price: 10 RM for adults and free for children.

Tanjung Bungah Beach

Half an hour drive from Georgetown sits this beautiful beachside in the suburb of Tanjung Bungah.
